SINGER

... like the voice of Minnie Ripperton floating through the ether
— The List

Jude has sung in various formations over the years. Most recently, recording and performing alongside Nic Green in Hanna Tullikki’s Seals'kin which was created for Sydney Biannalle. Together they’ve facilitated live workshops and performances delivered by KARST as part of British Art Show 9, Galoshans festival produced by FERAL and as part of COP26. And the dreamy gig that was Air falbh leis na h-eòin | Away with the birds at Techtonics and on the island of Canna in 2014.

Jude was shortlisted for best jazz vocalist in 2016, she then recorded jazz duo album, A RECORD with Nigel Clark [ready to be dusted down post early mother . . . post pandemic.] And has brought her voice to many intimate and expansive spaces; a series of jazz duos in a cafe concert series with some of Scotland’s finest, in the Glasgow Concert Hall and in concert with Craig Armstrong.

Jude often writes music [through improvisation] with The Letter J. She trained at the Royal Academy of Music in London - graduating in 2005 with distinction and coveted Dip RAM honours. She performed in the original cast production of Sunshine at Leith at Dundee Rep. And often bring her singing voice to her performances in theatre work - Orlando, The Songbird, PUSH not to mention the odd panto.

She crafted ‘BEING ALIVE’ - an evening with Jude Williams - for the CCA and is often invited to bring her song to funerals, memorials, weddings and naming ceremonies - it was one of her ways into working as a celebrant, and is one of her ways to move grief/celebrate life.

Williams’ sweet, wistful voice has echoes of Lena Horne her control, too, seems effortless.
